Common understanding of the current and future states

We discussed our common understanding of the current and future states for the situation in America, since this is where we live and where we can have an impact.

Current State
The current state is that the vast majority of Americans do not know the truth about Taiwan history; through the lies told over and over by the Chinese government and repeated by a gullible media, Americans believe that Taiwan is a part of China, always has been and somehow should be again, peacefully if possible. The US Government has stood by and obfuscated the situation for its own expediency, whether political or economic, causing the situation to worsen by actively suppressing Taiwan self-determination.

Desired Future State
We all have far reaching ideals as to seeing Taiwan become a fully internationally recognized nation in its own right, no longer pressured by China, with a thriving democracy full of people who care about each other, supported by a free and fair media. We need however to break this goal down into a significant milestone, something that will move us along in the road to that goal, but actually attainable for us living here in America. So this milestone becomes our 'working' desired future state we will strive towards. At this point what would help the situation for Taiwan would be for the US Government and the American people to actively and vocally support Taiwan Self-Determination; this desired future state becomes our mission.

Mission
We discussed about what our mission should be and how important this is to keep everyone working towards this same mission, even though there are different ways and methods that can and need to be used to get there. Loosely though, it could be something like:

Overturn the US Government's official position on Taiwan to fully support Taiwan Self-Determination via referendum or popular vote by all Taiwanese.

We of course can discuss and refine this further. Having a clear understanding of our mission helps keep us focused on doing things that matter and not getting distracted into all the items that will not further the mission.
